How DevOps Became the New Normal Just last year, a CA Technologies and Vanson Bourne survey revealed that DevOps was not a sure-fire hit— 16 percent of senior IT professionals did not know what DevOps was, and an additional 18 percent had no plans to adopt it. Fast forward one year and the results tell an entirely new story. 88 percent of respondents had already adopted DevOps or plan to do so, up from 66 percent last year. In addition to senior IT professionals, this year’s respondents expanded to include senior Line-of-Business executives—precisely the people you’d expect would not know as much about DevOps. So how has DevOps become the new normal? The application economy happened – or, rather, it accelerated so quickly that enterprises have no choice but to consider DevOps.  In our most recent global survey on the application economy, 94% of Line of Business exec... How Can IT Keep up with the Pace of Change?

New research commissioned by CA Technologies and conducted by Vanson Bourne shows the role of IT is changing -- and not to benefit IT leaders in many cases. The survey of 1,300 senior IT leaders worldwide revealed 39% of respondents now see IT as a service broker or consultant to the line of business rather than a full-service provider of all IT services; and 35% of IT spending is occurring outside of the IT department today - and that number is expected to grow to 44% in three years. Other disturbing findings show that just 11% see the role of IT as a developer of new, innovativ... (more)

It used to be that we'd call a restaurant to make a reservation, or even drop in and make a reservation. Now it's all on-line, through OpenTable, or Foursquare." This is the emergence of the Application Economy, where the application becomes the primary point of contact between the business an... (more)

Why Customers are Unhappy with Your Mobile Apps

How quickly do things change in the world of mobility? Just last year, CA Technologies conducted a worldwide survey that told an entirely different story from the one we are hearing today. 2013’s Enterprise Mobility – It’s All About the Apps was a call to action for enterprise IT to keep up with customers mobility demands and employee’s desire for BYOD. If last year was about keeping up with customers’ mobile application demands, this year that issue has all but disappeared. Our 2014 survey respondents released an average of six customer-facing apps last year, and 71 percent of ... (more)
